Meetings at basement
Meetings at basement:
We avoid meetings to protect focus, but we also value real face-to-face time (or Discord time) when it matters.
When we meet, it should be for a reason, not out of habit. Meetings should exist to make decisions, not to repeat what could’ve been written.
Guiding principles:
The goal is not to have more meetings. It’s to have fewer, better ones.
If it can be solved on Slack, it doesn’t need a meeting.
Ok, schedule it
Define a clear goal before scheduling.
Keep groups small, only the people who truly need to be there.
Share agenda and prep materials in advance.
Turn on your camera, facial expression helps give context and intention.
End with decisions, owners, and next steps.
Write a quick summary after.
Nope, don’t do it
Book a meeting to “discuss” with no purpose.
Take the meeting in a noisy or public place (unless it’s an emergency or you have no other option).
Even though we don’t have a dress code, avoid football jerseys or overly casual clothes on client calls, a simple black shirt does the job.
Invite everyone just in case, without checking their availability, it’s relevance or considering overlapping meetings in the calendar.
Let conversations drift off-topic.
End without clarity or accountability.
Discord, the exception to the rule
We encourage you to connect often with your squad. Hang out, collaborate, and share progress without waiting for the “official” meetings. Great things happen when you create together, and it helps avoid silos by keeping everyone connected and aligned.
